Tools

Actions your agents can take

Agents use built-in tools, such as saving a lead or emailing your team. You can also turn a routine you repeat into your own tool, built from steps without code, that agents, a form and your own code run the same way every time.

Capabilities

What it does

  • Built-in tools

    Live

Reply to the customer, search knowledge, look up a table, read a web page, search the web, save a lead, notify your team, send an email and hand over to a person.

  • Tool builder

    Live

Define the inputs a tool needs, add steps one after another, test each step's request and answer, and publish with versions.

  • AI, web request and app action steps

    Live

Steps can ask an AI model, call a web API with keys kept in encrypted tool secrets, format a result, or act in a connected app (for workspaces in the connected apps pilot).

  • Condition steps

    Live

Stop with a result, or carry on, depending on an earlier value, such as whether an order was found.

  • Your tools in agents

    Live

Give a published tool to an agent. Tools that change data ask for approval first, and each run shows on the task.

  • Run a tool as a form

    Live

Share a simple form so people on your team can run the tool without opening an agent.

  • Run tools through the API

    Live

Run your own tools from your own systems with a project API key, and get the result in the same request.

  • Knowledge search steps and loops

    Live

Search your knowledge inside a tool, and repeat steps for each item in a list.

  • Bring your own model keys

    Planned

Use your own AI provider account for model steps.

  • Bulk runs

    Planned

Run a tool over many rows at once.

  • Code steps

    Planned

Run a short piece of code as a step when the built-in steps are not enough.

How it works

How it works

Parts of this work today and the rest is still to come. The badges above show which is which.

  1. 1

    Name the inputs

Say what the tool needs to start, such as an order number or a phone number.

  2. 2

    Add the steps

Chain AI, web request and app steps, with conditions where the path depends on a result.

  3. 3

    Test with sample input

Run it on example values and check each step's output.

  4. 4

    Use it anywhere

Give it to an agent, share it as a form, or call it over the API.

Questions

About tools

Which tools can agents use today?

The built-in tools (reply to the customer, search knowledge, save a lead, notify your team, send an email, hand over to a person), the tools you build yourself, and, for workspaces in the connected apps pilot, app actions.

What is the difference between an agent and a tool?

An agent decides what to do next. A tool does one job the same way every time. Agents call tools to get reliable results.

Can I build my own tools?

Yes. Open Tools and select New tool. Add inputs and steps, test them, and publish. Tools that change data ask for approval before an agent uses them.

Will I need to code?

No. Every step is set up with a form, and values are inserted with a menu. Code steps are planned for people who want them, in a separate sandbox.
