Knowledge
LiveKnowledge is the information your agents answer from, so their answers come from your business instead of guesses.
What knowledge is
Knowledge is your source of truth: price lists, policies, FAQs, delivery areas and opening hours. An agent with knowledge answers from your content, and hands the question to your team when the answer isn't there.
There are six ways to add it:
- Your business. Your business's name, what it does, website, email, phone, WhatsApp, address and hours, written once on the Knowledge page. Every agent uses them. See Your business.
- Text in the agent. Paste facts into the agent's Knowledge box. Only that agent uses it.
- Files and notes on the Knowledge page. Upload files or write notes once, then add them to any agent in the same project.
- Pages from your website. Import one page or a whole site on the Knowledge page, keep it up to date, and add it to any agent in the same project.
- Tables. Keep records such as products, branches or doctors in rows and columns, and add them to any agent in the same project. See Tables.
- Teach by chatting. No website needed: tell the agent about your business in a chat, or send a photo of your rate card or a PDF. Each fact waits for you to accept it. See Teach by chatting.
Your business
Customers ask every agent the same things: where you are, when you're open, how to reach you. Write them once:
- Open Knowledge and select Add your business details under Your business.
- Fill in what applies: Business name, What the business does, Website, Email, Phone, WhatsApp, Address, Opening hours, Also good to know, How agents should talk and Never say or promise.
- Save. Every agent in the project now knows them.
How agents should talk sets the tone for every agent, for example "Warm and short. Say ji to elders." Never say or promise lists what no agent may say, for example "a delivery date" or "discounts". If an agent has daily quality checks on, its conversations are also checked against this list.
A file, note or website on the Knowledge page can also go to every agent: select Share with every agent next to it. It then shows Every agent, and every agent searches it along with its own knowledge.
An agent that shouldn't use your business details, such as an internal HR helper, can switch off Use your business details on its Build tab.
Teach by chatting
Many businesses don't have a website, and don't want to fill in forms. Teach the agent by chatting instead:
- Open the agent and stay on the Build tab. Under Knowledge, Teach by chatting shows what it still doesn't know, such as "Still to teach: delivery charges, Sunday hours".
- Select Teach by chatting. The agent asks about one thing at a time, in Hindi, Hinglish or English.
- Answer in your own words, or send a photo of your rate card or menu, a PDF or a link.
- Each fact shows as a Here's what I learned card with the old value and the new one. Accept it, edit it first, or reject it. Nothing changes until you accept.
Short updates work at any time in Team chat or the test chat, such as "Sunday band rahega" or "kaju katli ab ₹1,250". Only Owners, Admins and Builders can teach; customers never can. See Teach your agent by chatting.
Paste knowledge into an agent
- Open the agent and stay on the Build tab.
- Paste your facts into Knowledge. You can add up to 20,000 characters.
- Separate topics with a blank line, so the agent can find the right part.
- Under Tools, make sure Search knowledge is on.
- Try the questions your customers ask in the test chat, and fix the knowledge where an answer is wrong.
Short knowledge is given to the agent in full. Long knowledge is left out unless Search knowledge is on; with it on, the agent looks up the right part before it answers. The builder warns you if you have added knowledge but the tool is off.
Templates come with an example business we invented, which goes into an agent only if you tick Start with example data when you create it. If you did, replace it with your own: until you do, the agent is marked Our example text and Publish agent stops to show you what it would tell your customers. That includes the example table's rows. See Agents.
Upload files
- Open Knowledge in the app.
- Drag files onto the upload area, or select Choose files. To type something instead, select Add a note.
- Open an agent. On the Build tab, under Knowledge files, select Choose files and tick the files the agent should use.
- Make sure Search knowledge is on. The builder warns you if it is off. Agents with files use it for them either way.
- Test in the test chat, then select Publish agent. Real conversations use the files in the published version.
Builders, admins and owners can add, change and delete knowledge. Viewers can read it.
Supported files and limits
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| File types | PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, plain text (.txt) and Markdown (.md) |
| File size | Up to 4 MB each |
| Text kept | Up to 200,000 characters a file. Anything after that is left out, and the file says so. |
| Spreadsheets | Every sheet, up to 5,000 rows each. Formulas are read as their saved values. |
| Files per project | 50 files and notes |
| Files per agent | 20 |
We can't read scanned PDFs (pictures of pages), password-protected PDFs, older .doc and .xls files, PowerPoint or images yet. If we can't read a file, it is still listed, marked Couldn't read, with the reason. Delete it and upload a version with selectable text, such as a Word file.
Import from a website
- Open Knowledge in the app and select Import from website.
- Enter the address of a page, such as
https://www.example.com/faq. - Choose This page only, or Whole site and the most pages to import.
- Under Keep it up to date, choose Every week, Every month or Don't refresh.
- Select Import. The import runs in the background; the Websites list shows its progress, and you can cancel it.
- Open an agent. On the Build tab, under Knowledge files, select Choose files and websites and tick the website.
For a whole site, we read the site's sitemap if it has one. If it doesn't, we start at the address you entered and follow its links, a few steps deep. We stay on the same website (www.example.com and example.com count as one) and skip files such as PDFs and images, login, account and cart pages, and pages with almost no text. When two addresses show the same text, we keep one.
Open a website in the list to see its pages, when each was last fetched, and what the last import or refresh changed. From there you can change the refresh schedule or page limit, select Refresh now, or delete the website.
Refreshing
A refresh checks every page again:
- A page whose text changed is updated in place, so agents keep using it.
- New pages are added, up to the page limit.
- A page that is gone (not found, now blocked or nearly empty) is marked Missing last check. It is removed only if it is still gone at the next refresh, so a short outage doesn't remove it.
- If the site can't be reached, the pages from the last good check are kept and the website shows what went wrong.
What we fetch, and how
- Only public pages on the standard web ports. Pages behind a login can't be imported.
- We follow your site's
robots.txt. Our crawler is calledDhanurAI-KnowledgeBot, so you can give it its own rules. - We fetch one page at a time from your site, at least a second apart, and skip pages larger than 2 MB.
- We keep the text of each page, without menus, footers, scripts or cookie banners, and not the page itself.
Website limits
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Pages per website | Up to 50 |
| Website pages per project | 500, separate from the 50 files and notes |
| Websites per project | 20 |
| Websites per agent | 5 |
| Text kept | Up to 100,000 characters a page |
An agent can't be published with a website that has never imported successfully. If an import fails, the website shows why; fix the problem and select Refresh now, or remove the website from the agent.
Tables
A table holds records in rows and columns: products and their prices, branches and their phone numbers, or doctors and their timings. Instead of searching text, an agent looks up the rows it needs, so it can answer questions like "Is the Baner branch open on Sunday?" exactly.
Make a table
- Open Knowledge in the app and select the Tables tab.
- Select Import CSV or Excel and choose a file, or select New table to start with an empty one.
- If you import, check the preview:
- Column names are in: the row that holds the column names. Title rows above it are left out, and so are empty rows.
- Sheet: for an Excel file with more than one sheet, the sheet to import.
- Type: we suggest a type for each column from its values. Change it if it's wrong.
- Select Import. Values that don't fit their column's type are left empty, and we list them so you can fix them in the table.
| Type | What it holds | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Any words or sentences | Koregaon Park |
| Number | Prices, counts and amounts | 1250, ₹1,250.50, 12.5 |
| Yes or no | Yes or no, true or false, haan or nahi | Yes |
| Date | A day. Dates written with slashes are read day first. | 2026-09-17, 17/09/2026, 17 Sep 2026 |
| Web address | An address starting with https:// or www. | www.sharma.in |
| An email address | sales@sharma.in | |
| Phone | A phone number with 6 to 15 digits | +91 98765 43210 |
| Choice | One of a list you set | Pune, Mumbai, Delhi |
When we suggest types, codes with leading zeros (such as 007), percentages and dates with a time stay as Text, so nothing is lost. We read the values Excel saved; formulas are never run.
Change a table
- Select a cell to change it. Enter saves, Esc cancels and Tab moves to the next cell. On a phone, tap a row to open all its values.
- A column's ⋯ menu sorts the table by that column, and lets you rename the column, change its type, make it an AI column, move it or delete it.
- Changing a column's type checks every value first. If some don't fit, you see them, and can fix them or change the type and clear those cells.
- Tick rows to delete several at once. Search looks in every column.
- Import adds a file's rows to the table, or replaces all its rows. Columns are matched by name, and columns the table doesn't have yet can be added.
- Export CSV downloads the table. Text that a spreadsheet would run as a formula (starting with =, +, - or @) gets an apostrophe in front.
Builders, admins and owners can change tables. Viewers can read and export them.
Add a table to an agent
- Open the agent and stay on the Build tab.
- Under Knowledge files, select Choose files, websites and tables and tick the table.
- Give the table a clear name and description on the Knowledge page. The agent sees both, with the names and types of the columns.
The agent then has the Look up a table tool. It is on while the agent has at least one table and off when it has none, and it only reads. The agent looks up rows by words, such as a branch name, and by exact values, such as City = Pune. It sees the best 10 matching rows and names the table in its answer.
If you delete a table that an agent uses, the agent stops looking it up straight away, including its live version. The table stays on the agent, marked Deleted table, and the agent can't be published until you remove it. Copies of an agent in another project and exported agent files don't include tables; the report lists them so you can import them there.
AI columns
An AI column fills itself in from the other columns in each row, using an AI prompt or one of your agents. You choose the rows and see the estimated cost before anything runs. See Fill a table column with AI.
Table limits
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Tables per project | 20 |
| Rows per table | 5,000 |
| Columns per table | 30 |
| Characters per cell | 2,000 |
| Choices in a choice column | 50 |
| Import files | CSV or Excel (.xlsx), up to 4 MB |
| Tables per agent | 5 |
| Rows an agent sees per lookup | 10 |
How agents use files
When someone asks a question, the agent searches its pasted knowledge, its files and every page of its websites, and reads the passages that match best. When an answer comes from a file, the agent names it, for example "According to our price list, …". When it comes from a website, the agent names the page and gives its address.
Search by meaning
Agents also search by meaning, so they find the right passage even when the customer's words differ from yours: "paisa wapas" or "money back" finds your refund policy, and a question in Hindi finds an answer written in English. Word matches still count, and the two are blended.
- A file, website page or pasted knowledge is ready for search by meaning a few minutes after it is added or changed. Until then, its words are still searched.
- If search by meaning is ever slow or unavailable, the agent answers from word matches instead, without waiting.
- It costs a little: indexing your knowledge and each question are charged as Knowledge search on your usage. See the prices.
- Your knowledge is sent to our embeddings provider, Voyage AI, with its option that stops it keeping or training on what we send. See Data and privacy.
You can edit a note on the Knowledge page. You can't edit the text of an uploaded file: upload a new version and delete the old one. Agents use the change from their next message.
A file can't be deleted while an agent uses it, including an agent's live version. Remove it from the agent, publish if the agent is live, then delete it.
Deleting a website is different: its pages are deleted and the website is removed from every agent that uses it, including live versions, straight away. The delete dialog lists those agents first.
Tips
- Write facts as short, plain sentences, such as "Returns: within 7 days of delivery, unused, with the bill."
- Put prices, timelines and limits in numbers.
- Give files clear titles, such as "Price list 2026". Agents use the title when they name a file.
- Say in the instructions what the agent should do when something isn't covered. By default, agents say they don't know and hand over rather than guess.
Where your knowledge is kept
When you upload a file or import a website, we read the text and keep only that text. We don't store the file or the page itself. Imported tables keep their values, not the file. Knowledge is stored in our databases in Bengaluru, India. When the agent answers, the parts it needs are sent to the AI model provider to get a result back. We don't use your content to train AI models. See Data and privacy.
Later
Planned. Answers with links to the exact passage they came from, and syncing from Google Drive.
