Chat with your agents
LiveUse Team chat to talk to your live agents yourself, for quick answers, lookups and checks, with every chat saved as a task.
Chat in the sidebar is Team chat: a place where you and your teammates talk to your project's agents directly. Use it to look something up in your agent's knowledge, try a question a customer asked, or let an agent do part of its job for you.
Everyone in the workspace can use it, including Viewers. The agent always says it is an AI assistant.
Start a chat
- Open Chat in the sidebar.
- At the top, choose the agent you want to talk to. The list shows the project's live agents.
- If the agent has suggested messages, they show as buttons. Select one, or type your own message.
- Press Enter to send. Shift + Enter adds a new line.
Your reply appears in the chat. To ask a follow-up, keep typing in the same chat.
Owners, Admins and Builders can also teach an agent here: tell it something new, such as "Sunday band rahega", and accept what it learned on its card. See Teach your agent by chatting.
To start over, select New chat.
Send photos and PDFs
If the agent has Let people send files turned on, the message box has a paperclip.
- Select the paperclip and choose a photo or a PDF. On a phone you can also take a photo with the camera.
- Each file uploads straight away and shows a preview, its size and a progress bar. To take a file off before you send, select the × on it.
- Type a message if you like, then press Enter or select Send. A message can be just the files.
The agent reads the files with your message, for example a photo of a bill, a shelf or a damaged parcel, or a PDF quotation. The files show in the chat and on the task.
- Photos can be JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF (only the first frame of a GIF is read). A very large phone photo is made smaller before it uploads. HEIC photos from an iPhone are changed to JPEG where your browser can do it; if it can't, send the photo as a JPEG.
- Up to 3 files a message, 4 MB each. PDFs can have up to 20 pages, and password-protected PDFs can't be read.
- The agent sees every file of your latest message. In a long chat, files from earlier messages are shown to it while they fit, and after that it sees only their names, such as "[image: bill.jpg]". Send a file again if the agent needs to look at it again.
- Reading a file uses more AI than reading text, so a message with files costs more. The cost shows on the chat as usual.
- Files are kept for 90 days, then deleted. A file you upload but don't send is deleted after a day.
- Everyone in the workspace can open the files of a chat from Tasks. When the agent hides contact details from Viewers, Viewers see that a file was sent but can't open it.
Chat with a workforce
Live workforces are listed under Live workforces in the agent menu at the top of the chat. The workforce's first agent answers, and it may hand the chat to a teammate. The top of the chat shows the agents that have worked on it, such as Asha → Ravi, and your next message goes to the agent that has the chat now.
Switch agents with @
Type @ in the message box to see the list of live agents. Keep typing to narrow it down, then pick one with the arrow keys and Enter, or with a click.
A chat is always with one agent or one workforce. If you switch while a chat is open, your next message starts a new chat with the agent or workforce you picked. Your earlier chat stays in the list.
Find an earlier chat
The left column lists your own chats, most recent first. Use the search box to find one by its first message, by what you asked, or by the agent's name.
You only see your own chats here. Everyone's chats also appear in Tasks, with the channel Team chat, so builders and admins can review them like any other task.
Which agents show up
An agent is in the list when:
- it is published, and
- it is not paused, and
- Show this agent in Team chat is on in its settings.
Team chat always uses the agent's published version, not your unsaved or unpublished edits. To try a draft, use the test chat in the agent builder.
To hide an agent from Team chat:
- Open the agent in Agents.
- On the Build tab, scroll down to Team chat and turn off Show this agent in Team chat.
- Select Publish agent. The change applies once it is published.
You need the Owner, Admin or Builder role to change this. If an agent is paused, hidden or deleted, its earlier chats stay readable, but you can't send new messages in them.
Replies and approvals
In Team chat, the person reading the reply is you, not a customer. So the agent's reply comes straight back to you, even if Reply to the customer is set to Ask first for the agent's other channels.
Every other sensitive action still follows the agent's settings. For example, if Send an email or a connected-app action is set to Ask first, the agent asks before it acts, and the request shows under your chat and in Tasks. Builders and admins can approve or reject it there. Viewers can see the request but can't decide it.
Limits and costs
- A message can be up to 4,000 characters, with up to 3 photos or PDFs.
- Each person can upload up to 60 files an hour, and a workspace can take up to 300 files a day (India time).
- Each person can send a limited number of messages a minute and an hour. If you hit the limit, wait for the time shown and send again.
- When AI work is paused on the platform, or the daily spending limit is reached, new messages wait until it resumes.
- Each chat shows its cost in rupees. It counts towards your workspace's usage like any other task. See Limits and costs.
