LiveLet an agent draft photo posts for your professional Instagram account, and plan a month of them. Nothing is posted until you approve it, now or at a time you pick. In pilot.
An agent picks a photo, writes the caption in your voice, and puts the draft in front of you. It goes to your Instagram only when you select Post now, or at the time you schedule it, with any changes you make to the caption.
Pilot. Posting to Instagram works for professional Instagram accounts that our team has added to our Meta app. Meta lets us open it to every account once it has reviewed our app, which we haven't applied for yet. To join the pilot, ask us before you connect.
The quickest start is the Post on LinkedIn and Instagram goal on Home. It sets up a marketing assistant from your website and drafts the week's posts every Monday at 10:00. You can also switch the tool on for any agent.
You need the Owner or Admin role to connect Instagram, and Builder or above to change an agent.
Before you start
- A professional account. Instagram only lets apps post to Business or Creator accounts. A personal account can switch for free in the Instagram app: Settings, Account type and tools, Switch to professional account.
- Added by our team. During the pilot, we add your account to our Meta app, and Instagram asks you to accept an invite (on the web: Settings, Apps and websites, Tester invites).
Set it up
- In Integrations, select Connect Instagram and sign in to Instagram. It asks to see your profile and to publish on your behalf.
- Open the agent's Build tab. Under Tools, turn on Post to Instagram. It starts as Ask first: every post waits for you.
- Select Publish agent. Publishing makes the agent live. It doesn't post anything by itself.
Draft a post
In Chat, pick the agent and ask for a post, for example "Write an Instagram post about our Diwali offer". The draft appears in the chat, and in Tasks under Needs approval, as a card with:
- Photo: what will be posted. Instagram has no text-only posts, so every draft has one.
- Caption: change any of it before you approve. Instagram allows up to 2,200 characters, 30 hashtags and 20 @mentions.
- Suggested: the time the agent suggests for it, if it gave one.
- Post now, Schedule… or Reject.
Once it has gone out, the card shows See the post on Instagram.
To post for a particular day, select Draft a post for this day on that day in Calendar. It opens Chat with the date and time typed in, and you send it. See Draft a post for this day.
Festivals and your own dates
With the Post on LinkedIn and Instagram goal, a greeting post for each festival waits for your OK ten days ahead. It goes to LinkedIn when LinkedIn is connected; otherwise it's an Instagram post with a free stock photo, suggested for 12:30 pm on the festival's day. You can skip any festival, or switch festival drafts off. Your own dates on the Calendar, such as a sale, go to the weekly plan of posts. See Festival drafts and Your own dates.
Schedule a post
Plan a week or a month in one go. Ask, for example, "Plan three Instagram posts a week for October". The agent drafts each post separately, each with a photo and a suggested time, on weekday mornings between 9:00 and 11:00 unless you ask for other times. Each draft waits for you as usual.
- Schedule… opens a date and a time in India time, filled in with the suggestion. Change them if you like, then select Schedule. Nothing is posted yet: the card says Scheduled · Tue 6 Oct, 10:00 am, and the post goes out at that time, within five minutes.
- Post now posts it straight away, whatever time was suggested.
- Until it goes out, a scheduled post has Post now, Change time and Cancel. Cancel puts it back to waiting for your OK.
- A scheduled post doesn't wait for you, so it isn't counted under Needs approval. Its task says Scheduled, and the post sits on its day in Calendar.
- If you approve several drafts at once in Tasks, each one is scheduled for its suggested time. So is a draft that is approved automatically after a wait. To schedule a whole week of drafts from Calendar, see Approve the week.
- You can schedule up to 90 days ahead.
Keep scheduled posts safe
- Instagram must be connected to schedule. If it isn't, Schedule says Connect Instagram under Integrations first. The same check runs when you change a post's time. We renew the connection a week before it runs out, so a post far ahead needs nothing more from you.
- Fill in every part. A caption that still has a part like
{{business_name}}can't be posted or scheduled. The card says Fill in the {{…}} parts first. Change the caption on the card, then approve it. - Pause them all. On Calendar, Pause all scheduled posts stops every scheduled post in the workspace. They stay scheduled, and each card says Paused. Resume scheduled posts lets each go at its time; one whose time passed while paused goes within five minutes. Post now still works on any of them.
- Disconnecting cancels them. If you disconnect Instagram in Integrations, or remove our app in Instagram, its scheduled posts go back to waiting for your OK, with the note Cancelled: Instagram was disconnected.
- Checked again when it goes out. At the post's time, Dhanur AI checks again. The post doesn't go out if the agent is paused or deleted, Post to Instagram was switched off for it, your workspace rules switched it off, or Dhanur AI has paused agent work. It also doesn't go out if nobody approved it (it was scheduled automatically) and the tool now asks first.
- If it doesn't go through (these checks, a lost connection, or a photo that's gone), the post says Didn't go through with the reason on its card, in Calendar and in Needs attention. The workspace's Owners and Admins also get one email within 15 minutes, with the reason and a link to fix it. Nothing was posted: fix the cause, then ask the agent for the post again.
Change the photo
On a draft that is waiting, in Chat or on its task in Tasks, under Photo:
- Find a stock photo: the agent finds a free square photo on Pexels or Pixabay that fits the post and gives the photographer's credit.
- Use my own photo: opens your files. Pick a photo; it uploads, and the agent adds it to the draft.
- Make a poster: shown only while making AI images is switched on.
A way the agent can't use yet isn't offered as a button. The draft says what to switch on instead, with a link to the agent. Select a photo to see it full size, with Save and Share.
A new draft of the same post (the same suggested time, or neither with one) replaces the one waiting, so there is only ever one version of a post to approve. Drafts for different times wait side by side. If a draft's photo is no longer there (files are kept for 90 days), the card says Add a photo to post this on Instagram and can't be approved until you add one.
How the photo gets to Instagram
Instagram fetches the photo from us rather than taking an upload. When you approve, we make the photo a JPEG in a shape Instagram accepts (between 4:5 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape, cropped from the middle if needed), and give Meta a link to it that stops working after an hour. The photo's hidden details, such as where a phone photo was taken, are left out.
Good to know
- The agent never says a post is live, or waiting, when it isn't. If it says an Instagram post is waiting for your approval, or already posted, without making the draft, Dhanur AI sends it back to make the draft. If it still hasn't, its reply says nothing is waiting and nothing was posted.
- Test chats never post. A draft from the test chat can be approved, but nothing goes to Instagram.
- Staying connected. Instagram's permission lasts 60 days, and we renew it a week before it runs out, so you don't need to reconnect while the connection is in use. If Instagram stops accepting it, the goal checklist and Integrations say Reconnect.
- Limits. Instagram allows 100 posts a day from apps on each account.
- What Instagram gets: only the photos and captions you approve. We get your account's id, username and type, to show which account is connected, and the link to each post.
- Disconnecting. Select Disconnect in Integrations and we delete our access straight away. To remove our app from Instagram as well, go to Settings, Apps and websites in Instagram.
- Cost: writing a post is an AI reply, charged like any other. Posting and stock photos cost nothing extra, so a scheduled post goes out even if your credits run out before its time.
- Not yet: carousels, Reels, Stories and replying to Instagram messages.
