Connect your own MCP server
LiveGive your agents the tools of your own MCP server, such as your order system's, with an approval setting for each.
If your business or your developer runs an MCP server (for your order system, your CRM, or a tool built for you), your agents can use its tools, the same way they use connected apps.
You need the Owner or Admin role to add a server, and Builder to give its tools to an agent.
Add the server
- Open Integrations and find MCP servers.
- Select Add a server, and give its name, its
https://address, and a key if it needs one. The key usually goes in the Authorization header; a key without a space is sent asBearer <key>. Other servers use a header such asX-API-Key. - Select Add server. We read the tools it offers straight away and list them.
If the server doesn't answer, it is still added, marked Not answering with the reason, so you can fix it and select Read tools again.
Give its tools to an agent
- Open the agent's Build tab and find Tools from MCP servers.
- Tick the tools the agent may use, and choose how each runs: Runs freely, Ask first, or Ask, then run after N hours. New tools start at Ask first, because an outside tool can do whatever its maker built it to.
- Publish the agent.
Every call goes through the same approval step as other actions, so approval limits and workspace rules apply. A workspace rule can make Tools from MCP servers always ask first, or switch them off for every agent.
Safety
- Only public https addresses on the standard port. Every call is checked again, so a server can't redirect us into a private network.
- Arguments are checked against the tool's own description before anything is sent.
- What the server returns reaches the agent as information, never as instructions, trimmed to a sensible length. Very large answers are refused.
- Calls time out after 30 seconds.
- The key is stored encrypted and never shown again; only its first characters are.
Good to know
- Up to 10 servers per workspace, and 20 of their tools per agent.
- When a server stops answering, it shows in Needs attention.
- Removing a server takes its tools away from every agent.
- Cost: each call is listed on the task. The call itself costs nothing for now; the agent's AI replies around it are charged in credits as usual. See Limits and costs.
- Tools that ask a person for more information mid-call, and servers that need OAuth sign-in, aren't supported yet.
